Morgan confirms EvaGT launch for Pebble Beach

Earlier this year, Morgan committed bringing one new model market every two years, the first vehicle come out this initiative is the EvaGT, 2+2 coupe set debut at this year’s Pebble Beach extravaganza.

Aside from the teaser above, Morgan isn’t offering much the way of design details, but judging the tapered roofline and massive rear fenders, we’re having hard time imagining how more than two occupants could fit comfortably within the EvaGT.

The hand-finished, superformed aluminum body – which decidedly more modern than past Morgan – boasts a number aerodynamic tweaks, including flush door handles, hidden wipers and millimeter thin panel gaps reduce drag and improve downforce. Underneath, bonded aluminum chassis based on Morgan’s Aero SuperSports, same underpinnings used on its GT3 competitor.

As it’s done the last decade, Morgan is sourcing its powertrain BMW, the case the EvaGT it’s using the German’s 306-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six, along with six-speed manual or “sport” automatic gearbox shuttle power the rear wheels. Morgan is estimating curb weight 2,755 pounds, resulting 0-60 mph dash 4.5 seconds top speed 170 mph.

After EvaGT makes its debut at 60th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Carmel, California, Morgan will begin taking deposits first 100 units, with deliveries expected begin in mid-2012. Get full details in press release after jump.
